01

Dr. Galen Cole provides trauma-informed psychotherapy, counseling, coaching, couples and family services, and specialized professional support for adults.

His work includes individual psychotherapy, professional and executive coaching, couples therapy, relationship coaching, discernment counseling, family therapy, parenting support, and BrainMax Wellness services.

Services are individualized according to the client’s goals, circumstances, clinical needs, and the type of professional relationship being established.

02

Psychotherapy is generally focused on mental and emotional health, healing, resolving trauma, understanding difficult patterns, and treating psychological concerns.

Dr. Cole’s psychotherapy work may draw from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, clinical hypnotherapy, and other trauma-informed methods when appropriate.

Coaching is more future-focused and goal-oriented. Dr. Cole’s coaching approach is influenced by positive psychology and behavioral science and may focus on increasing well-being, applying personal strengths, improving performance, changing habits, developing new skills, and reaching professional or personal goals.

The appropriate service depends on your needs and the nature of the concerns you would like to address.

03

BrainMax Wellness is Dr. Cole’s specialized brain-based service incorporating quantitative EEG (qEEG) brain mapping and individualized neurotherapy approaches.

qEEG assessment provides objective information about patterns of electrical brain activity. That information can help guide an individualized strategy rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Depending on the individual, BrainMax services may focus on areas such as attention, cognitive performance, emotional regulation, sleep, recovery, and overall functioning.

Whether BrainMax is appropriate is determined based on the individual’s goals, history, symptoms, assessment findings, and broader treatment plan.

04

Therapy is tailored to the needs of the individual rather than being limited to one predetermined method.

Depending on the situation, Dr. Cole may integrate evidence-informed and trauma-informed approaches including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Brainspotting
  • Clinical Hypnotherapy
  • Behavioral and positive psychology strategies
  • Trauma-informed cognitive behavioral approaches

The approach used in any particular session depends on your goals, history, presenting concerns, and clinical needs.

05

Individual sessions are designed to provide a private, respectful, structured, and goal-oriented environment.

Initial work typically focuses on understanding your concerns, history, current circumstances, patterns, strengths, and goals. From there, Dr. Cole can help develop an individualized direction for therapy or coaching.

Depending on the nature of the work, sessions may focus on gaining insight into current patterns, learning new skills, improving emotional regulation, strengthening coping strategies, changing habits, addressing trauma, improving performance, or translating understanding into practical changes in everyday life.

06

Discernment counseling is designed for couples who are seriously uncertain about the future of their relationship or are considering separation or divorce.

Often, one partner is more inclined to leave while the other wants to preserve the relationship. Rather than rushing directly into conventional couples therapy, discernment work provides an opportunity to understand the situation carefully and consider possible directions.

Dr. Cole may meet with both partners and may also speak with each person separately to better understand the relationship and help clarify whether the couple wishes to work toward reconciliation, maintain the relationship as it is, or move toward separation.

If both partners choose to continue the relationship, the work can transition into couples therapy. When separation is chosen, the focus may instead shift toward reducing unnecessary conflict and creating greater clarity around the transition.

07

Yes. Dr. Cole provides couples therapy and relationship coaching for partners who want to better understand and improve their relationship.

Couples therapy may address communication difficulties, unresolved problems, emotional disconnection, recurring conflict, trust, intimacy, and other issues affecting the relationship.

Relationship coaching is more strongly focused on teaching practical relationship skills, identifying weaknesses in the relationship, establishing shared goals, and developing healthier ways to communicate, solve problems, and maintain connection.

Couples sessions are not intended to become an opportunity for one partner to criticize the other in front of a third party. The goal is to maintain a constructive and productive process.

With the consent of both partners, separate individual sessions may sometimes be used when trauma-related concerns need to be addressed before effective couples work can continue.

08

Yes. Family therapy can support families experiencing stress, conflict, anger, grief, communication problems, parenting challenges, or significant transitions.

Depending on the circumstances, family work may include the entire family or only those members who are willing or appropriate to participate.

Dr. Cole also provides parenting support informed by his work on Parenting Teens & Tweens: How to Raise Healthy Humans with Character.

Parenting work may include developing an individualized family plan and addressing areas such as:

  • Establishing and communicating boundaries
  • Creating clear expectations
  • Encouraging desired behaviors
  • Helping young people develop accountability
  • Understanding family identity and values
  • Evaluating progress and performance
  • Determining when additional outside resources or professional support may be useful
09

Session frequency depends on your goals, current challenges, needs, budget, and the type of work being done.

Dr. Cole generally recommends beginning with weekly sessions for approximately the first four to six weeks. Starting with greater consistency can help:

  • Build momentum
  • Establish a strong and trusting professional relationship
  • Create a foundation for continued progress and change

After the initial period, some clients transition to every-other-week or monthly appointments as they gain greater stability and confidence.

Frequency can be reviewed over time so that the schedule remains appropriate, useful, and sustainable.

10

New clients can begin by selecting the appropriate Individual, Couple, or Family service through the Appointments page or by requesting a consultation if they are unsure which service is appropriate.

Because Dr. Cole operates a private solo practice, adequate notice is required when changing an appointment.

A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is requested when rescheduling or canceling a session.

There is no charge when an appointment is changed or canceled before the 24-hour deadline.

If a scheduled session is canceled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice, the office reserves the right to charge the credit card on file for the full amount of a standard clinical hour, currently $300.

Dr. Cole’s primary role is therapeutic and consultative, and clients are asked not to involve him unnecessarily in litigation or other legal proceedings.

Intake documentation explains that compelling Dr. Cole to participate in court proceedings, communicate with attorneys, provide assessments or opinions to outside parties, or otherwise become involved in litigation can interfere with the therapeutic process.

This does not override professional or legal obligations involving confidentiality, mandated disclosure, or other requirements imposed by law or professional licensure.

When appropriate authorization is provided, clients may request copies of their records.

If records, testimony, a deposition, or Dr. Cole’s professional participation is required for legal purposes, additional professional fees apply.

Current Court-Related Fees

Expert-witness involvement is billed at $1,500 for one-half day, payable five days before the scheduled court appearance or deposition.

Time beyond the initial half-day is billed at $375 per hour, including travel time.

Time spent reviewing materials, consulting, or preparing for legal involvement is also billable according to the applicable professional rates.

Questions regarding legal or administrative involvement can be directed to the office before any request is made.
